The other day, Ben was driving down the road and noticed a group of birds sitting on the side. The birds, doing what they do best, flew off as he approached. Unfortunately, some of those birds changed direction last-minute. Instead of flying
across the road in front of him, they turned and flew in the
same direction. Ben was driving faster than their tiny wings could carry them, and he made contact. Hard. They thumped against the windshield much louder than he would have thought...and that was the last he saw of those 3 birds. Poor things!! I guess there's a chance they survived and flew off since he didn't see them in his rearview mirror. But then again, maybe not. :(

This story also reminds me of one from olden days. My family was driving to California, and my brother Mike was allowed to take a turn at the wheel. Just like Ben's story, there were some birds sitting on the side of the road, only this time it was a group of crows. Mike announced to everyone that he was gonna hit those birds, but little did he know that he would be right. Sure enough, one of those crows didn't get out of the way fast enough and was hit. We pulled over to take a look and that poor crow's head was stuck into the grill of the van with his wings spread and body flat. It was a sad day for that poor thing! (But we got a little bit of a laugh, too!)
